Love Onions? Try These Toppings on Your Home-Grilled Sizzle King Burger

Think about all the delicious ways that wholesome and healthy American beef are paired with onions? We seem to add onions to beef in roasts, in flavorful soups and on meat sandwiches, but nothing elevates the flavors of a great Sizzle King beef patty than onions.  And there are so many delicious ways to try them on your burger!

We’ve all grown up with the two traditional methods of eating fresh onions on hamburgers.  We have the fast-food style diced onions (been there, done that), and of course the way your Mom may have sliced fresh yellow or red onions into large crunchy circles, before slathering on your favorite condiments like mustard, ketchup or mayonnaise.

But if you are looking for a more refined or “grown-up” way of preparing onions to compliment your Sizzle King home-grilled burger, we did some searching for some truly inspired ways you can prepare onions and pair them with some of our premium blended burger flavors.  Get ready to upgrade your onions, with some of the tips and recipes our team has tried (and loved).

Honey Whiskey Sautéed Onions

Not to say that this spin on the classic sautéed onion isn’t for the ladies, but it definitely qualifies as a man-friendly burger.  Providing they like the flavor of whiskey, which does something magical to the taste buds when it is combined with a caramelized onion and the organic sweetness of real honey.

Keep the kids away from this grown-up recipe (not that they would like the taste of it, even if they tried it by accident).  You can also use real salted butter or clarified butter (ghee) in this amazing recipe from the food bloggers at Sweet C’s.

Thinking of serving it the next time you have family and friends over? No problem! You can prepare the Honey Whiskey Sautéed Onions in advance and reheat them in the over (not the microwave) in less than ten minutes so that they are piping hot and ready to serve.

Bacon Fried Apples and Onions

Did you just think “oooh… that sounds good!”  You’ll have to do more than take our word for it, because this delicious topping is destined to become a fan-favorite at your house, the second you serve it to family and friends.

Apples as we know are super healthy for us, and while you may not think that combining them with onions is a great flavor profile; you’d be wrong.  It’s succulent, full of great texture and notes of ripened fruit, the sweetness of the onion (we recommend using Vidalia onions for best results) and bacon?  Oh yeah, this topping is elegant, and epic and everyone is going to love it.

We got this savory recipe from “Foodie and the Family” which is a great blog written by foodie celebrity Rebecca Lindamood, who has some best-selling cookbooks, and who has been featured on many cooking shows including The Pioneer Woman.  Pair this topping with our Sizzle King Sweet Onion burger or for the true bacon fans out there, try it with our delicious Bacon Cheddar burger.

Caramelized Onions and Sweet Bell Peppers

While all fresh bell peppers are very healthy for you, have you ever wondered why the red or yellow bell peppers cost a little bit more at the grocery store?  That’s because they are actually superfoods that are packed with vitamins and nutrients that are really good for you.  And, when cooked, both yellow and red bell peppers take on an exceptional sweet flavor while retaining a great texture and crunch that is satisfying.

Hungry yet? We’re just getting started! Did you know that most green peppers are just unripe red peppers? That’s why they have that bitter after taste.  Red peppers are actually a fruit (and not a vegetable) because of the higher sugar content.   Both ripened red and yellow peppers contain Vitamin A (good for eye health) and vitamin C, which is important to the immune system.

Jenn Segal is a formally trained Chef and cookbook author, and we’re fans of the incredible recipes she shares on her food blog “Once Upon a Chef”.   You’ll this delicious recipe and some great cooking tips to professionally prepare the Caramelized Onions and Sweet Bell Peppers for your next burger party on her website.   Try it will our Sizzle King Turkey Pattie, or Spicy Jalapeno burger.

Southern Style Chili Peppers and Sautéed Onions

Chili peppers offer many of the same health benefits that red peppers do, with one important ingredient that is not found in the red peppers; capsaicin.  This is the naturally occurring chemical that produces that warm to mildly burning heat sensation that you experience, when you eat a chili pepper.

Across Southern America in states like Texas, Tennessee and Louisiana, hot toppings are where it is at!  Because a pleasantly spicy fresh topping piled on a great beef burger is an explosion of wonderful flavor sensations.

Here is where you can get a little creative.  You don’t have to completely dice up the chili pepper, if you prefer a hot and spicy burger.  Instead, you can wash, de-seed and grill whole chili peppers and reserve some on the side.  Take 2-3 peppers and dice them up and add them to your sautéed onions (we recommend using a dab of whisky, balsamic vinegar or avocado oil instead of butter, to avoid drowning the flavor of the peppers).

Grill your Sizzle King burgers according to the directions on our package and top it first with a whole grilled chili pepper.  Then add a couple tablespoons of your sautéed onion and chili pepper mix.  Consider adding your favorite barbeque sauce and pair it will our Sizzle King Beef Patties (unflavored), or go the extra mile for spicy food lovers, and try it with our Spicy Jalapeno burger.  Get the five essential steps to follow for perfectly charred Chili peppers in this article from MANBQUE.
